Motto: "Scientia oeconomica rei publicae et orbi terrarum prodest"
The Economic Round Table is composed of members from different sectors of the business community in San Francisco. We have been meeting weekly since 1940 to hear presentations about current issues in business, politics, law, etc. Although the focus of the group is on economic issues, topics are not limited to this field alone.
Where: We meet in the Financial District of San Francisco at the Pacific Research Institute
When: Every Wednesday morning 8:00 to 9:00 a.m.
Members and guests arrive between 7:30 and 8:00 a.m. for coffee and conversation. The public is welcome to join us. There is no cost or obligation to visit our weekly meetings.
Format: The format is somewhat flexible and resembles an "Executive Briefing." Our attendance is usually from 20 to 40 members and guests. Speakers usually spend between 15 to 30 minutes on their presentation leaving the balance for Q & A and discussion. The Economic Round Table does not pay a fee or honorarium to speakers, however many tell us that they find the experience valuable.
A Brief History: The Economic Round Table of San Francisco was started as an independent branch of a similar organization founded in Los Angeles in 1932. James Mussatti was a charter member of the Los Angeles group, and brought the idea with him to San Francisco in 1939. Nine charter members organized the Economic Round Table of San Francisco in the Fall of 1939.
Past speakers have included Kurt Hauser, Richard Rosenberg, Claude Rosenberg, Mayor Willie Brown, Edward Teller, David Binder, Mayor Gavin Newsom, Ed Harrington, Warren Hellman, Peter Wylie and Jerome Fishkin.
