Supervisor Peskin was sworn in to his second term as Supervisor for District 3 on January 8, 2005. Representing the heart of San Francisco – Chinatown, North Beach, Polk Gulch, Nob and Russian Hills, the Financial District and Fisherman’s Wharf – he was twice elected unanimously as the President of the Board of Supervisors by his colleagues.

During his first term in office, Aaron held a variety of key posts, Chairing the Finance & Audits Committee as well as the City Planning Audit Select Committee. Aaron also served on the Budget Committee for two years as Vice-Chair.

As head of the Finance & Audits Committee, Aaron focused on strengthening fiscal and ethical oversight in City government by restricting elected officials from using City funds for campaign related expenses. Aaron led the fight for fiscal responsibility at San Francisco International Airport and he worked to reign in abuses of city-owned vehicles.

Aaron was first elected to the San Francisco Democratic County Central Committee in March 2000 and was elected again in June 2008.He currently serves as chair of the San Francisco Democratic County Central Committee.

Aaron has drawn on his experience as a neighborhood activist to focus on preservation, planning issues and housing. He organized park advocates to renovate and expand several parks in District 3, including St. Mary’s Square, the Helen Wills Playground and the North Beach Playground. Aaron has authored legislation easing the process for forming Community Benefit Districts like the successful Union Square BID.

Prior to becoming a member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, Aaron worked at a number of nonprofit environmental organizations including Trust for Public Land, The American Land Conservancy and Great Basin Land and Water where he helped acquire land and water rights for parks, open space, wildlife and cultural preservation.

Aaron lives on Telegraph Hill with his wife Nancy Shanahan.
